Solving Coolant Problems

Rancidity

  1. Check prior cleaning procedure.
  2. Check for tramp oil removal program.
  3. Check mix ratio with a refractometer.
  4. Check coolant tank for accumulation of metal chips and fines, especially if your equipment cuts a variety of metals. (These contaminants should be removed frequently.)
  5. Ensure that coolant is replaced yearly.
  6. Ensure that additional coolants or unnecessary microbiocides were not added.
  7. Ensure that the coolant does not contain refuse or contaminants.
  8. Consult Intercon staff about machine lubricants (waylube oil).

Rust

  1. Check mix ratio.
  2. Check pH value of coolant (Avg. 8.5-9.5 @ 1:20 mix).
  3. Check tank for dissimilar metal fines build-up (can lead to electro-chemical reactions).
  4. Ensure mixture is well stirred. (After filling and whenever adding a leaner "top-off' mixture to the tank.)

Foaming

  1. Check mix ratio.
  2. Check coolant level in tank.
  3. Check coolant lines for holes.
  4. Ensure that tramp oils have been removed/skimmed.
  5. Ensure pump is in good working condition.
  6. Consult with staff at Intercon.

Poor Finish

  1. Check mix ratio.
  2. Ensure tramp oil removal program is in effect.
  3. Speeds and/or feeds may be too low.

Smoke

  1. Ensure tramp oil removal program is in effect.
  2. May be steam or vapour from water burn-off.
  3. Check for too heavy mix ratio.

If any problems persist, contact your local distributor immediately and arrange to have someone see you or, have a Jokisch products specialist contact you. Or call Intercon direct at (800) 665-6655.
